Genre: Techno-Thriller Romance
A hacker breaks into a girl’s life to protect her from an unknown threat. She never meets him, only knows him by the codes and notes he leaves. But the moment they finally see each other, the real danger begins.

Ava’s phone buzzed on the coffee table. It was a notification from her home security system. ‘Front Door Unlocked.’ She frowned. She was sure she had locked it. She lived alone in a small apartment, and she was always careful. She got up and walked to the door, turning the deadbolt. It was already locked. The system must be glitching, she thought.
The next day, it happened again. This time, a note was left on her screen. A simple text file was open on her laptop. The message was clear and terrifying. ‘Your security system has a backdoor. Change your password. Do not use “Sunflower123” again.’ Ava’s blood ran cold. “Sunflower123” was her password for everything. How could anyone know that?
She was about to call the police when another message popped up. ‘Don’t call them. They can’t trace me. And I’m not here to hurt you. I’m here to help.’ The message disappeared after five seconds, leaving no trace. Ava felt a chill. Someone was inside her digital life. They were watching her right now.
Guardian Ghost
Days turned into weeks. The hacker, who she started to call her ‘Ghost,’ became a strange presence in her life. Her printer would whir to life, spitting out a news article about a local burglary, with a specific address circled, an address she was supposed to dog-sit at that week. A food delivery would arrive at her door just as she was feeling too sick to cook, paid for with a credit card that wasn’t hers.
The messages were always short. ‘Avoid the subway today.’ ‘Don’t trust the man in the blue car.’ He was protecting her from things she didn’t even know were threats. She started to feel a weird dependence on him. She even began talking to her laptop camera. “Thank you,” she would whisper after a close call was avoided. There was never a reply, but she felt he heard her.
One night, a message stayed on the screen longer. ‘You are in danger. More than you know. The threat is closer than you think.’ Ava’s heart pounded. “Who are you?” she asked the empty room. The text on the screen changed. ‘A friend. My name is Leo.’
Real World
Knowing his name made him feel real. Leo. She wondered what he looked like. Was he young? Old? Why was he protecting her? The warnings became more urgent. ‘They know I’m helping you. They will try to find you through me. You are not safe at home.’
Ava was terrified. She packed a bag, her hands shaking. Another message appeared on her phone. ‘Go to the city library. Main reading room. Sit at desk number 14. I will find you there.’ This was it. She was finally going to meet the ghost who had lived in her machines for months.
The library was quiet. Desk 14 was in a corner, under a large window. She sat down, her knees weak. She waited for ten minutes. Nothing happened. Just as she thought it was a cruel joke, a man sat down in the chair opposite her. He was young, maybe a few years older than her. He had tired eyes and wore a simple black hoodie. He didn’t look like a master hacker. He looked ordinary. And scared.
He didn’t smile. He slid a note across the table. It read: ‘They’re here. Don’t react. Play along.’ Ava’s breath caught in her throat. Leo mouthed the word ‘Hi.’ He was pretending this was a normal meeting. A first date.
Then he spoke, his voice low and calm. “It’s good to finally see you, Ava.” But his eyes were screaming a warning. He was looking over her shoulder. She understood. The real danger wasn’t in the digital world anymore. It was here. And it had followed them both.
The Twist
“We should go for a walk,” Leo said, his voice still eerily calm. He stood up, and Ava followed, her legs feeling like jelly. They walked out of the library and onto the busy street. Leo guided her into a quiet alley. As soon as they were out of sight, he grabbed her arm, his grip firm but not painful.
“We don’t have much time,” he said, his voice now urgent and fast. “They’ve been watching you for a year. They’re not after you. They’re after your father’s research. The data he hid before he disappeared.”
Ava stared at him, stunned. Her father was a biologist who had died in a car accident two years ago. “What are you talking about? My father is dead. He didn’t hide anything.”“The accident was staged,” Leo said, looking over his shoulder. “He found something dangerous.
A corporate espionage group was after him. He faked his death to protect you. He hid the data… in your digital footprint. In your photos, your cloud storage, your music playlists. He encrypted it with a key. A key only you would know.”
Ava’s mind was reeling. None of this made sense. “Why are you involved? Who are you?”Leo’s face softened for a second. “Your father… he was my mentor. He was like a father to me, too. He came to me for help. I was supposed to protect you from a distance.
I never meant to get this close. I’m sorry.”The pieces began to click into place. The strange protection. The knowledge of her life. He wasn’t a random hacker. He was her father’s last line of defense.
The Key
“They know I’ve made contact,” Leo said. “They’ll be coming for us now. We need the data so we can expose them. But I can’t break the final encryption. Your father said the password was personal. Something only his daughter would know.”Ava thought of her father.
His kind smile. His terrible jokes. The way he always called her…“His nickname for me,” she whispered. “He never called me Ava. He always called me his little ‘Starlight.’”
Leo’s eyes widened. “That’s it. That has to be it.” He pulled out a small, powerful laptop from his backpack. His fingers flew across the keyboard. “I’ve mirrored your cloud drive.
I just need the passphrase.”Ava leaned over and typed the word into the prompt. Starlight. The screen flashed. ‘Decryption Complete.’ A progress bar filled up. They had done it. They had the proof.
But the sound of a car screeching to a halt at the end of the alley made them both look up. Two men in dark suits got out. They were out of time. Leo shoved the laptop into her hands.“Run,” he said, his voice firm. “Take the back route.
I’ll hold them off.”“No!” Ava cried. “I’m not leaving you!”“This was always the plan, Ava,” he said, giving her a sad smile. “The protector becomes the distraction. Now run! Live.”
He gave her a gentle push toward the other end of the alley and turned to face the men. Ava hesitated for one more second, then turned and ran, the weight of the laptop and her father’s legacy heavy in her arms. The password was her name. And the fight for her life had just begun.
